Celebrate Teen Read Week, October 7-13, by checking out one of these Teen Top Ten nominated books for 2018. The Teens' Top Ten is a "teen choice" list, where teens nominate and choose their favorite books of the previous year! Learn more and find past winner at the Teens' Top Ten web site. Teens can vote for their favorite title until October 13th. A printable list of the 2018 Top 10 nominations with annotation is also available.
Each month, Read On Wisconsin highlights a great selection of books for kids and teens. The 2018 -2019 school year lists are now available. You can use our Read On Wisconsin page to help you find these titles in InfoSoup, or visit the Read on Wisconsin web site to learn more about the program and the titles selected.
Read On Wisconsin was initially created by former Wisconsin First Lady Jessica Doyle. Since 2011, the program has been administered by the Cooperative Children’s Book Center(CCBC) of the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. See the ROW About page to learn how the program has evolved over the years.
Audiobooks are hot! What was once a niche market is now the fastest growing segment in the digital publishing industry. Amazon's Audible service may grab most of the headlines, but library usage of downloadable audiobooks is also on the rise. In 2017, Wisconsin's Digital Library (our shared statewide OverDrive collection) checked out 1,584,226 audiobooks, an increase of over 200,000 from the previous year. Through July 2018, Wisconsin library users have already checked out over 1,125,000 audiobooks via OverDrive. In addition to the shared statewide collection, InfoSoup users also have free access to an ever-growing collection of audiobooks from Recorded Books through their RB Digital platform.
Wisconsin's Digital Library (OverDrive)
Anyone with an InfoSoup library card can access to the almost 20,000 audiobooks available via Wisconsin's Digital Library. Through OverDrive we can offer many of the current best sellers and most popular authors. The downside of this popularity, however, is that long waiting periods are not uncommon and a constant source of frustration for many OverDrive users. Looking on the bright side, the very large and broad collection also means that at any one time there are usually over 6000 "available now" titles and thousands more titles with very short waiting lists. If you have not used Wisconsin's Digital Library yet, we recommend trying the Libby app for your Apple, Android, or Microsoft phone or tablet or Windows 10 computer. It is easy to sign up, easy to use, and completely free with your library card and PIN #. Along with the audiobooks you will have access to many thousands of eBooks.
RB Digital Audiobooks
Our RB Digital collection grows each month and currently has over 8000 titles. RB digital usually doesn't have the very latest best sellers, like OverDrive, but many of the titles are exclusive to Recorded Books. Popular authors in this collection include Dianna Gabaldon, John Sandford, William Kent Krueger, Craig Johnson, Robyn Carr, Iris Johansen, C.J.Box, Joanne Fluke, Danielle Steel, & Charlaine Harris. Genre fiction, including mysteries, fantasy, romance, and westerns make up a large part of the collection. Classics, children's books, and non-fiction are also well represented. Selected titles from Recorded Books "Your Coach in a Box" and "Modern Scholars" libraries are also included.
Our RB Digital collection is made up of Subscription Titles and Purchased Titles.
Subscription Titles (7500+ titles)
The majority of the collection is made available as a subscription, meaning that the titles are always available and can be checked out as often as you like. With a wide selection of titles with no waiting lists, you are always sure to find something you can begin listening to right away. Each month 20 to 40 new titles are automatically added to the subscription titles. You can scroll through the "Newly Added" section on the RB Digital web site or in the RB Digital App to see all the recent additions.
Purchased Titles (700+ titles)
When some of the InfoSoup libraries purchase Audiobooks CDs from Recorded Books, they also purchase a digital copy to add to the shared InfoSoup RB Digital collection. These are often newer titles, and like OverDrive, are only available 1 copy per user at a time. In these cases, if the title is checked out, you will see a Hold option. Seeing the hold button is really the only way to distinguish the subscription titles from the purchased titles. Once you place the hold, you will see where you are on the waiting list. Because this is not a shared statewide collection, hold lists are usually not very long. You will receive an email when the title is available.
Using RB Digital
Using RB Digital is very easy and free with your library card. First time users can go to https://infosoup.rbdigital.com and click on Register in the top right corner and follow the instructions. An app is available for most devices, including desktop apps for Windows and Apple computers. Visit the RB Digital Help Page to learn more. As a bonus, the RB Digital app not only gives you access to thousands of audiobook titles, you will also have access to over 130 popular magazines that you can read or download on almost any device.
Some Recent Additions to RB Digital (View more at http://infosoup.rbdigital.com)
Whether you love them or hate them, agree with the selections or disagree, there is something about a "best of" book list to delight or anger most readers. PBS has recently added to the long list of book list with The Great American Read project. PBS, using the public opinion polling service "YouGov," commissioned a "demographically and statistically representative survey asking Americans to name their most-loved novel." The subsequent top 100 book list, ongoing public voting to select a "winner," and an 8 part television series, form the core of The Great American Read.
You can use our Great American Read booklist to browse the titles and find them in InfoSoup. Also visit The Great American Read web site to learn more about the books and how they were chosen, share a story about a novel that has had the biggest impact on your life, learn about the television series, and find out how to vote for your favorite books.
