Newspaper Resources from BadgerLink
Two new newspaper resources are now available from BadgerLink, free to all Wisconsin residents. The resources are U.S. Newsstream and Newspapers.com Library Edition - World Collection. You can also find these listed on the InfoSoup Research Tools page under Newspapers.
U.S. Newsstream contains current and archival United States news coverage dating back to the 1980s.The database includes hundreds of national and regional Newspapers including major daily papers such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, & the Chicago Tribune. Many Wisconsin papers are available including the Appleton Post-Crescent and the Green Bay Press Gazette. U.S. Newsstream provides the text of articles from the newspapers, but is not a complete cover-to-cover version of each newspaper. Using the browse specific issue feature, however, you can view a single day of articles from any of the papers. The number of articles and content from each newspaper can vary. For instance, the Appleton Post-Crescent does not include obituaries, but the Green Bay and Oshkosh papers do.
Newspapers.com Library Edition - World Collection is an historical newspapers archive from the 1700s - 2000s containing thousands of well-known regional, state, and small local newspapers in the United States, Canada, England, Ireland, and other countries. The World Collection replaces NewspaperArchive, which is no longer available from BadgerLink. Like NewspaperArchive, the World Collection provides scanned images of the newspapers, so you can view and read articles in their original layout. Years covered vary greatly by newspaper, but new material is being added all the time. Check out the BadgerLink training video to learn more about using this new resource. Wisconsin coverage is not particularly strong in this collection, although there are still almost 2 million scanned pages from Wisconsin papers.
